Cercle Magique (the quest)

In 2011, The Society of Affective Archives conducted an experimental road trip to Death Valley, a National Park in the southern United States. This journey included a quest in search of wild horses, commonly knows as Mustangs – a vanishing species that are descendents of escaped domesticated horses first brought to America by the Spanish – to capture an imprint of their hoof print. The imprint was first cast in plaster and then in bronze, and is included in the Society’s ongoing collection of affective archives. This particular archive includes a selection of artifacts that speak to encounters with the imaginary, the desire for conquest, and the notion of the tragic.

This project were presented at Occurence – Espace d’art et d’essai contemporains from March 23 to May 13, 2017.
